We’re not a chain that mails a check to a nonprofit from a marketing budget three states away. We’re a family business that has been part of DeKalb County since Charlie Bockman opened the doors in 1964. Our employees live here. Our clients’ kids go to school here. We see the same faces at the grocery store that we see at the shop counter.
Supporting this community isn’t a separate function we built a department for. It’s what it looks like when a business has been part of the same county for 60 years and intends to be here for another 60.
Every Veterans Day, we say thank you with something useful: a free oil change for any veteran at either location. No fine print, no strings. Just call to schedule, let us know you’re a veteran, and we’ll take care of the rest.
Veterans also receive a standing 10% discount, up to $50, year-round at both locations. A valid military ID or DD-214 is all you need. It’s a small gesture relative to what service members give, but it’s one we’ve been glad to make and intend to keep making.
The Veterans Day free oil change and the standing 10% discount are separate offers and cannot be combined with each other or with any other offer.
Through the NAPA Auto Care Centers of DeKalb County program, a portion of every oil change we perform goes to a different local DeKalb County charity each month. The charity rotates, but the giving doesn’t stop.
We announce the monthly charity on our Facebook page. When you’re due for an oil change, it already means something a little extra.

A business that’s been in the same county for 60 years either becomes part of that community or it doesn’t last. Bockman’s has lasted because the people here have supported it, and we’ve tried to make sure that support goes both ways.
That was true when Charlie started here in 1964. It’s still how Jon runs things today.
